Communist Afghanistan Medal for Service in the Armed Forces, 4th Class (for Five Years of Service), 1987-1992 issue.
This is a GUARANTEED 100% ORIGINAL Medal issued by the Communist Government of Afghanistan during the period of Soviet occupation and before the fall of the Soviet-backed Najibullah’s regime – NOT a recent copy!  This medal was struck at the Soviet Mint and shows high quality typical of the Soviet manufacture.
The medallion is made in German silver and enamel, measures 32 mm wide. The obverse shows red star and military emblem of Afghanistan from the Soviet era. The reverse is inscribed in Dari "Medal of Service in the Armed Forces, After 5 Years".
The medal is in SUPERB condition. It shows no wear to the raised details, no dings or scratches visible to the naked eye, and no edge knocks. The silver finish is extremely well preserved and bright showing only light patina on the obverse and practically pristine on the reverse. The red enamel is perfect. The medal comes on original suspension with correct red-black-and-green ribbon. The ribbon is used but in excellent condition.
This was a relatively scarce award even 30 years ago, and of course few of them have survived to our days after the years of civil war and Taliban rule! Great historic medal with a lot of character. If it could talk, it would probably tell some true-life horror stories.
