    Description

Presented for sale is a splendid antique 12" sterling silver "TANTALUS" caddy with two 10-1/2" tall hand-cut antique crystal bottles with 1-1/2" high crystal stoppers that fit snuggly into the top of the tantalus.
    NOTE
    :
    The
    word "
    TANTALUS"
means a stand in which to lock up
    drink
    decanters
    while
    keeping
    them
    visible
    .
The bottles are etched with grains and grain leaves, and each design is different from the other, adding to their uniqueness together inside the twin caddy.
This tantalus was passed down to me beginning with my grandparents. I am 71 with no direct heirs to enjoy it, so the time is right to let a new family own it.
The caddy has a faux pas lock on it, meaning it attaches to the caddy for the looks but does not lock, nor is there a key nor inner lock mechanisms. The 1" high lock was associated with the caddy
for as long as I can remember in my parents and grandparents homes when I saw it swinging on the caddy.
The lock does have a maker's mark on it. On one side is written Eagle Lock Co., and on the other Terryville Conn USA. Eagle Lock Co. of Terryville, CT, was one of the first American lock works of the early 1800's.
